About Workers' Comp
Florida's workers' compensation law is designed to provide medical and
wage benefits to workers who were injured as a result of an accident,
injury or occupational disease while on the job.
You are entitled to a second medical opinion, and in some cases you may
select the doctor of your choice.
Workers' compensation coverage will replace part of your lost wages if
your doctor says you must be out of work for a certain length of time
because of a work-related injury or illness.
It is the worker's responsibility to report a work related accident as
soon as it happens.
Workers' compensation coverage is paid by your employer at no cost to
you.
Workers' compensation coverage will pay for reasonable and necessary
medical care if you get hurt or get sick because of an injury on your
job.
You may be eligible to receive a variety of benefits: medical benefits,
indemnity benefits, reemployment benefits, preferred worker benefits.
By law, you cannot be fired for filing or attempting to file a workers'
compensation claim. However, the law does not require your employer to
hold your position for you until you are able to return to work.
Your employer's workers' compensation insurance carrier's name and telephone
number should be posted at your worksite. If not, ask your supervisor
for your employer's carrier or call the Employee Assistance Office of
the Division of Workers' Compensation at: (800)342-1741 or the closest
field office.
