The Process of Hiring an Attorney

Step One: Ask several friends who have had a similar experience whom they would recommend. You should be able to come up with at least a few names without too much effort.
Step Two: Go on the attorneys’ websites and learn all you can about the prospects on your list. Are you looking for a big or small law firm? Make sure you review their results, because after all, I assume that’s what you are ultimately looking for- a great result in your case. From there, narrow the list to three.
Step Three: Make appointments to have a face-to-face meeting with the remaining three on your list. At the meeting, ask many questions. Is the attorney being honest with you, or just telling you what you want to hear? Get a good feel for the chemistry and relationship you have with each attorney. There is no substitute for an in-person meeting. If you hire an attorney solely based on advertising, it may cost you a lot of money in the end, and the entire process involving your claim may be far more frustrating and difficult.
Step Four: Think about your choices for a day or two. This is an important decision that will significantly impact you and/or your family, especially if you have been in a serious accident or have any kind of important legal issue. Remember, all law firms are not the same.
Final Step: Make an appointment to go in and sign all of the paperwork. If you have felt pressured to do so prior to following the above steps, don’t hire that attorney. No good attorney puts pressure on a prospective client to sign up with him or her!
